How it works
Prefix, Start, Step, Count
The sequence fills the bulk list with one value per line. From there it is exactly like pasting your own list: every value is checked against the barcode type you picked, and you download the whole batch in one go. The number of digits in the start value sets the width, so leading zeros are kept.
| Example | Prefix | Start at | Step | Suffix | First three |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Asset tags | ASSET- | 00001 | 1 | None | ASSET-00001, ASSET-00002, ASSET-00003 |
| Every tenth number | None | 1000 | 10 | None | 1000, 1010, 1020 |
| Batch and suffix | B7- | 001 | 1 | -X | B7-001-X, B7-002-X, B7-003-X |
Choosing a format
Which Barcode Type for Serial Numbers?
Code 128 is the default here and the right choice for most serial labels: it encodes letters, digits and symbols, and it is compact. Code 39 is wider and limited to uppercase letters, digits and a few symbols, but some older systems still require it.
Numbering products rather than individual items? Pick UPC-A or EAN-13 and sequence the numbers without their last digit. The generator adds each check digit for you.

Need the Label to Open a Record?
A barcode carries the serial number and nothing else; your scanner and software do the rest. If you want anyone with a phone to scan a tag and see the item's details, its manual or a service form, use QR codes instead. The QR code inventory guide covers how teams set that up.
