How it works

How QR codes work with Google Analytics

  1. 1

    Create a dynamic QR code

Generate a dynamic QR code in QRKit. Built-in scan analytics — totals, location, and device — are included automatically on every plan.

  2. 2

Add UTM parameters to the destination

Append UTM campaign parameters to your destination URL (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content). When someone scans, Google Analytics records the session as a tagged campaign visit.

  3. 3

Configure a tag in Google Tag Manager (optional)

If you use GTM, set up a trigger on page load for your QR landing page. GTM can fire conversion tags, Facebook or LinkedIn pixels, or any other tag the moment someone arrives via your QR code.

  4. 4

View scans in QRKit and sessions in Google Analytics

QRKit shows QR-specific data (scan totals, location, device). Google Analytics shows the full session — pages visited, conversions, and campaign attribution — all connected through your UTM parameters.

Built-in scan analytics on every plan

QRKit tracks every scan automatically — total scan count, country and city, device type, and scan trend over time. This data is available on every plan, including Free, with no Google Analytics setup required. Use it to compare which placements (posters, packaging, cards, signage) perform best.

Pass QR scans into Google Analytics via UTM

Set your QR code destination to any URL with UTM parameters and Google Analytics will attribute every scan-driven session to the correct campaign. Use utm_source=qr and utm_medium=print as a baseline, then differentiate codes with utm_campaign and utm_content. The result: QR scans appear in your Acquisition reports alongside your other marketing channels.

Google Tag Manager for advanced tracking and retargeting

If you manage tags through GTM, create a trigger that fires on your QR landing page URL. Use it to fire Google Ads conversion tags, the Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight, or any custom event. Retargeting pixels that fire on QR scan landing pages are available on the Plus plan and above.

Features

Everything you need

Built-in scan analytics, all plans

Scan totals, location, device breakdown, and trend data — included on every QRKit plan, including Free.

UTM-ready destination links

Add UTM parameters to any destination URL so every QR scan is attributed as a campaign session in Google Analytics.

Google Analytics pass-through

QR scans appear in your Google Analytics Acquisition reports as tagged campaign traffic — no extra SDK or plugin required.

Google Tag Manager support

Trigger any GTM tag — conversion events, remarketing pixels, custom data layer pushes — when a visitor arrives from a QR scan.

Retargeting pixel, Plus plan+

Attach a retargeting pixel directly to your QR code in QRKit so scanners are added to a remarketing audience even before they reach your landing page (Plus plan and above).
