Easy to use

How to Create a Menu QR Code in 3 Steps

1

Build Your Menu

Add sections and dishes with prices, dietary tags and the 14 EU allergens, or let AI import read your existing PDF or photos of the printed menu and turn them into a draft you review before it goes live.

2

Pick a Design

Start from a preset — Bistro, Café, Izakaya, Cocktail Bar or Fine Dining — then set the layout, accent color and dark mode. Style the QR code itself with your logo and brand colors, or leave it plain.

3

Print and Display

Download a PNG with a free account — SVG and PDF for print come with any paid plan. Place on table cards, counter signage, napkins, or receipts. Share on social media or embed on your website. Guests scan and see your latest menu right away.

Keeping your PDF? On any paid plan you can add it as a download block beside the structured menu, so guests get the menu first and the PDF is still one tap away. A converted legacy PDF menu stays free on its own. If your menu already lives on your own website, a URL QR code can point straight at it instead.

How it works

What Is a Menu QR Code?

A QR code menu lets guests open your restaurant, cafe, or food business menu on their phone by scanning a code. There is no app to install: they scan with the camera and the menu opens in the browser.

Most menu QR codes are a PDF behind a link: guests pinch and zoom, and changing one price means exporting a new file. QRKIT builds a structured menu page instead. Each dish is its own entry with a description, one or more prices, dietary tags and allergens, so the page can be searched, filtered and read at any font size.

Because the QR code is dynamic, you edit the menu and every printed code shows the change on the next scan. New specials, seasonal items, a price correction, an item marked sold out — all live in seconds, with no reprinting.

Place your QR code on table cards, counters, napkins, receipts, signage, social media, or your website. Wherever your guests are, your current menu is one scan away.

View only, on purpose: A QRKIT menu shows your food. There is no cart, no payments and no ordering, so the page stays fast and there is nothing for a guest to sign up to. Learn more about dynamic QR codes or explore all QR code types.

Benefits

Why a Built Menu Beats a Menu PDF

Update in Seconds, Print Once

Change a price, add a special, hide a dish. The edit is live on the next scan, so the codes you already printed never go stale and never need reprinting.

Dishes with Photos and Prices

Every dish carries a description, up to six price variants, calories and add-ons. Dish photos, your logo and a cover image come with any paid plan.

Allergens and Dietary Tags

Tag any dish with the 14 EU allergens and 8 dietary tags — vegan, vegetarian, halal, kosher, organic, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free. Every chip carries a text label, never an icon alone.

Search and Sticky Section Tabs

Guests type “burrata” and land on it. Sticky section tabs follow the scroll, so a long menu stays navigable on a phone held in one hand.

Schedules for Breakfast and Happy Hour

Give a menu, a section or a single dish opening hours in your own time zone and it appears and disappears on its own. Schedules come with any paid plan.

Sold-Out Marking

Mark a dish sold out for today, until a date, or indefinitely. It stays visible and struck through, so guests stop asking for it. Available on every plan, including Free.

Dark Mode, Built In

The page follows the phone's light or dark setting, or you can pin it to one. Every preset is checked for readable contrast in both themes.

Fast, and No App

The menu is a server-rendered page that opens in the browser. No app, no login, no third-party scripts, and no tracking of guests beyond anonymous view counts.

Readable and Printable

Sizes are set in relative units, so system font zoom works. A built-in print stylesheet turns the same menu into a clean printed sheet when you need paper.

Scan and Item Analytics

See how often your code is scanned, when, and on which devices. Paid plans add the most-viewed dishes and sections, counted anonymously.

Your Language and Currency

Set the menu language and an ISO currency, and prices format the way your guests expect. The page carries structured data for search engines.

Save on Printing Costs

Reprinting a paper menu costs money every time the kitchen changes something. A QR code on a table card is printed once and keeps working.

Use cases

Menu QR Codes for Every Food Business

Restaurants

One code for dine-in and takeout: daily specials, drink lists, and the full menu, each dish with its allergens. Change a price or mark a dish sold out and the next guest sees it. Place the code on table cards, counter signage, or takeout packaging. Create staff contact cards with a vCard QR code.

Cafes & Bakeries

Drink menus, pastry counters, and daily offerings. Put the bakes that sold out by noon behind a sold-out mark and swap in the afternoon selection.

Food Trucks & Pop-ups

Your menu changes at every stop. Print one QR code and edit the dishes between locations. Professional appearance, zero reprinting.

Bars & Lounges

Cocktail menus, wine lists, and happy hour. Give the happy hour section a schedule and it shows itself between 5 and 7, then steps aside.

Catering & Events

Build a menu per event package or tasting menu, with allergens listed for every course. Duplicate it for the next client and edit the differences. Pair with event QR codes for calendar invites.

Hotels & Room Service

Room service, the hotel restaurant, and in-room dining. Place the code on bedside signage or welcome packets and give the breakfast menu its own hours. Add a WhatsApp QR code for instant guest messaging.

Best practices

Menu QR Code Best Practices

01

Write for a Phone Screen

Keep dish names short and descriptions to a line or two. Put the sections a guest wants first — specials, then mains — because the sticky tabs read in the order you set. Open the menu on your own phone and read it end to end before you print.

02

Add a Call-to-Action

“Scan to View Menu” or “Scan for Today's Specials” tells customers what to expect. Use QRKIT's frame feature to add the CTA directly to the QR code. People scan more when they know what will happen.

03

Print at the Right Size

Table cards: 3–5 cm. Counter signs: 5–8 cm. Window signage: 10–15 cm. The QR code width should be about 1/10th of the expected scan distance. Download as SVG for clean scaling at any print size — SVG and PDF come with any paid plan.

04

Place Where Customers Look

Table cards, counter displays, receipts, door signage, and social media profiles. Pair with a WiFi QR code so customers can connect and browse your menu.

05

Test on Multiple Devices

Scan with both iPhone and Android before printing. Check that the menu loads quickly, that search finds a dish you expect, and that the allergen labels are legible. Try it in dark mode too, since the page follows the phone's setting.

06

Update Regularly

A stale menu is worse than no menu. Set a weekly reminder to check prices, specials, and availability. With a dynamic QR code an edit takes seconds, and anything you sell out of can be marked instead of deleted.
