Frequently Asked Questions
A QR code (Quick Response code) is a two-dimensional barcode designed to store information in a matrix format. Developed by Denso Wave in 1994, QR codes add a digital layer to products, printed materials, and experiences by seamlessly connecting the online and offline worlds. They offer a fast and cost-effective way for both businesses and individuals to share information, links, contact details, and more.
Static QR codes are typically generated using free online tools. They feature a simple, dense design and remain unchangeable once created or printed, lacking additional functionalities like tracking and security features. You can create an unlimited number of free static QR codes that never expire. In contrast, dynamic QR codes offer greater flexibility—their destination links can be updated even after printing, making them highly adaptable for marketing purposes. Dynamic QR codes come equipped with tracking capabilities, enabling you to monitor scan counts, timestamps, geographic locations, and device types. Once a static QR code is generated, it cannot be converted into a dynamic QR code, as they are fundamentally different technologies.
Yes, you can create dynamic QR codes with a logo at no charge using QRKIT. By signing up for the free version, you are entitled to generate one dynamic QR code, supporting up to 100 total scans per month.
No, our static QR codes do not expire and will work indefinitely. Dynamic QR codes are tied to your subscription plan, so they remain active as long as your account subscription is active. Additionally, dynamic QR codes on the Plus plan and above include an optional expiry feature—you can set specific date ranges or scan limits to manage accessibility exactly how you want.
Most modern smartphones have a built-in QR code scanner in their camera app. For iPhones running iOS 11 or later, the built-in camera app automatically detects QR codes, and most new Android devices offer a similar feature. Simply open your camera app and point it at the QR code. If your phone doesn't have a built-in scanner, you can use our QR Code Scanner tool, which also works if the QR code is already on your phone.
If your QR code isn't functioning properly, several factors could be responsible. First, verify that the destination URL is correct, as even a minor typo can disrupt its operation. Additionally, make sure the code is sufficiently large and displayed in an environment with proper lighting. Ensure there's adequate contrast between the QR code and its background for optimal scanning. For a comprehensive troubleshooting guide covering all potential issues and solutions, read our guide on why a QR code is not working.
Since your existing codes are hosted by another provider, moving to QRKIT will generate a new QR pattern. This means you will need to reprint your current batch of codes one last time. The benefit is that once you reprint them with our dynamic system, you will be set up forever—you can change the destination link as often as you like in the future without ever needing to print again. If you need to recreate a large batch at once, our Bulk Generator is available on the Plus plan and above.
