What custom domains are
A dynamicQR code doesn't encode your destination directly — it encodes a short link that redirects to it. That redirect is what lets you edit the destination later and track every scan. By default that short link lives on a QRKIT scan domain.
A custom domain replaces that host with one of your own, so the URL your audience sees is go.yourbrand.com/aB3x9 instead of the shared domain. The redirect, analytics, and editing all keep working exactly the same — only the visible host changes.
Custom domains apply to dynamic QR codes only. Static QR types (plain text, Wi-Fi, SMS, email, calendar events) encode their content directly and have no redirect to brand.
Plan availability
Custom domains are a paid feature. The number of domains you can connect depends on your plan:
- Pro ($37/mo) — one custom domain.
- Ultra ($89/mo) — two custom domains.
- Agency ($199/mo) — four custom domains.
- Free, Starter, and Plus — custom domains are not included. The Domains tab shows an upgrade prompt.

Connect a domain
Open Settings → Domains in your dashboard, then:
- Enter your subdomain. Use something like go.yourbrand.com or scan.yourbrand.com. Root domains (yourbrand.com) aren't supported — pick a subdomain.
- Add the CNAME record. QRKIT shows the exact record to create at your DNS provider: a CNAME for your subdomain pointing to cname.qrkit.to. If your DNS is on Cloudflare, set the record to DNS only (gray cloud), not proxied.
- Wait for validation. QRKIT checks for the record and issues an SSL certificate automatically. This usually finishes within a few minutes; it can take longer while DNS propagates. The status moves from Waiting for DNS to Issuing certificate to Active.
Your first domain automatically becomes your primarydomain. You don't need to migrate your DNS or change anything about your main website or email — only the one CNAME record is added.
Choosing a domain on a QR
Once a domain is Active, a domain picker appears when you create a dynamic QR code. Your primary domain is pre-selected, and the host you choose is baked into both the short link and the printed QR image — so the code physically encodes your branded URL.
You can set any active domain as primary from the Domains tab. If you have multiple domains (on Ultra or Agency), you can pick a different one per QR code at creation time.
Because the domain is encoded into the image, the choice is made when the code is created. Re-download or regenerate a code if you need it on a different domain.
Downgrades & removals
Printed QR codes can't be recalled, so QRKIT never breaks a live domain instantly. If you remove a domain, or downgrade to a plan with fewer domain slots, the affected domain is suspended with a 30-day grace period: it keeps resolving so existing codes keep working.
Re-upgrade (or re-add the domain) within that window to keep it active. After the grace period, the domain stops resolving and codes that were created on it fall back. Plan to reprint or migrate any affected codes before the window closes.
If a domain was your primary, the next active domain is promoted to primary automatically.
Troubleshooting
- Stuck on "Waiting for DNS." Double-check the CNAME points to cname.qrkit.to and is on the exact subdomain you entered. On Cloudflare, make sure the record is DNS only (gray cloud). DNS changes can take time to propagate — use the Re-check button.
- Stuck on "Issuing certificate." The DNS record was found and the SSL certificate is being issued. This is automatic and usually clears within a few minutes.
- "Apex domains aren't supported." You entered a root domain (yourbrand.com). Use a subdomain such as go.yourbrand.com instead.
- The domain picker doesn't appear. The picker only shows for dynamic QR codes with at least one Activedomain. Static QR types don't use a redirect, so there's no domain to pick.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to move my DNS to QRKIT?
No. You add a single CNAME record at your existing DNS provider. Your main domain, website, and email are untouched.
Is SSL included?
Yes. QRKIT issues and renews a TLS certificate for your subdomain automatically, so every scan link is served over HTTPS. There is nothing to buy or upload.
Can I use my root domain?
Not currently — custom domains use a subdomain such as go.yourbrand.com. Add a CNAME for the subdomain and you're set.
Does a custom domain change my scan analytics?
No. The domain changes the link your audience sees, not your reporting. Every scan still rolls up into your QRKIT analytics as before.
What happens to codes if I stop paying or remove the domain?
The domain keeps resolving for a 30-day grace period so printed codes don't break immediately. Re-upgrade within that window to keep it; otherwise the links fall back after the grace period.
