Get an API key for Canva

The QRKit app for Canva connects with an API key from your QRKit account. Here's how to create one and paste it into the app.

Before you start

You'll need a QRKit account. The API key links the Canva app to your QRKit workspace so you can browse and insert your QR codes without leaving Canva. Your key stays private — it's stored securely and never shown to other users.

Create an API key

  1. Sign in to QRKit and open the API keys page (Dashboard → Settings → API keys).
  2. Click Create API keyand give it a name you'll recognize, such as "Canva".
  3. Copy the key when it's shown. It starts with qr_live_ (or qr_test_ for a test key). For security, the full key is only displayed once.

Choose the right scopes

The Canva app needs these scopes on the key:

  • qr:read — list your QR codes in the app.
  • qr:write — required to connect.
  • analytics:read — optional, enables scan counts on each code.

If a key is missing a required scope, the app will tell you which one to add. You can edit a key's scopes any time on the API keys page.

Connect in Canva

  1. In Canva, open Apps and launch the QRKit app.
  2. Paste your API key into the field and click Connect.
  3. Your QR codes appear in the app — click any one to add it to your design.

Troubleshooting

  • "Invalid API key"— double-check you copied the full key with no extra spaces, and that it hasn't been revoked.
  • "Missing required scopes" — edit the key on the API keys page and enable qr:read and qr:write.
  • No codes showing — create a QR code in your QRKit dashboard first, then reopen the app.

Ready to connect?

Grab your key from the API keys page and paste it into the QRKit app in Canva.
