Comparison
TikCodes vs Standard QR Codes
TikCodes are TikTok's proprietary code format — round, colorful codes with the TikTok logo in the center. They link to profiles only and require the TikTok app to scan. TikTok also offers a built-in profile QR code. Here's how all three options compare.

Which should you use? TikCodes are fine for quick profile sharing between existing TikTok users. The built-in QR works for simple profile sharing with any phone camera. For anything beyond profiles — individual videos, sounds, hashtag challenges, or any use case requiring custom branding, scan tracking, or print-ready downloads — create a TikTok QR code with a custom QR code generator.
Built-in feature
TikTok's Built-in Profile QR Code
Wondering how to get your TikTok QR code? Separate from TikCodes, TikTok generates a standard QR code for your profile within the app. This is a square QR code that any phone camera can read — but it only links to your profile.
How to find your built-in QR code
- 1Open the TikTok app on your phone.
- 2Go to your Profile tab.
- 3Tap the hamburger menu (Ξ) in the top right corner.
- 4Tap “QR code” — your profile QR code appears. Save it to your device or share it directly.
Tip: You can change the background color of your built-in QR code within the TikTok app, but the palette is limited to a few preset colors. For more details, see TikTok's official QR code guide.
Limitations of TikTok's built-in QR code
- • Profile only — no individual videos, sounds, or hashtags
- • Limited customization (preset color palette only)
- • No scan tracking or analytics
- • No print-ready formats (SVG/PDF)
- • Cannot update the destination after saving

Why custom QR beats TikCodes & built-in? Custom QR codes work for any TikTok content (not just profiles), support full branding, and offer scan tracking and analytics. With dynamic QR codes, you can update the destination anytime without reprinting. Wondering if QR codes expire? Static QR codes last forever. For more options, see our custom QR code generator.
Content types
QR Codes for Profiles, Videos & Sounds
TikTok's built-in QR only works for profiles. To share a TikTok QR code for a specific video, sound, or hashtag challenge, you need a custom QR code generator. Here's how to share your TikTok QR code for every content type on the platform.
Profiles
The most common use case. Link your profile QR code to tiktok.com/@username to grow followers. Works great on business cards, merch, and social media bios. Combine with a call-to-action frame: “Follow me on TikTok.” Verified creators can share their TikTok QR code at events, meetups, and conferences for instant follower growth — no manual username searching required.
Individual Videos
Link to a specific viral video or flagship content piece. Static QR codes are great for evergreen content. Use a dynamic QR code to swap to newer videos without reprinting — perfect for print campaigns tied to a specific release. After you create your TikTok QR code, download it as PNG for digital sharing or SVG for print materials. Brands often link to product demo videos, testimonials, or tutorial content as part of their marketing funnel.
Sounds & Audio
Link to a specific TikTok sound using the tiktok.com/music/[name]-[ID] format. Great for musicians, producers, and podcasters who want to encourage user-generated content using their sound. Print the QR code on album artwork, concert posters, or streaming cards so fans can instantly find and use your audio in their own videos — driving organic reach through UGC.
Hashtag Challenges
Link to a hashtag challenge page (tiktok.com/tag/[hashtag]) showing all content using that tag. Ideal for brands running branded hashtag campaigns — print the QR on packaging, event signage, or ads. Pair with a dynamic QR code so you can redirect to a new challenge once the current campaign wraps, maximizing the lifespan of every printed code.
TikTok LIVE
Link directly to your LIVE stream at tiktok.com/@username/live. Dynamic QR codes are recommended here — after the LIVE ends, redirect the code to the recording or your next scheduled stream. Event organizers can display a LIVE QR code on stage screens and signage so attendees can join the broadcast instantly from their seats.
URL tip: Always use the full tiktok.com URL format (not internal TikTok URIs) for maximum compatibility across devices and browsers. Want to see who scans your code? Learn about QR code tracking.
Use cases
7 Creative Ways to Use Your TikTok QR Code
Musicians & Producers
Print QR codes on album art, concert posters, and merch linking to your music videos, sounds, or TikTok profile. Fans scan to follow, listen, and create UGC with your sound. Use a dynamic QR code to swap between your latest release and back catalog. Link directly to your TikTok sound page so fans can instantly use your audio in their own videos — driving organic discovery on the platform.
Fashion & Apparel
Add QR codes to clothing tags, store displays, and shopping bags linking to styling videos, lookbooks, and behind-the-scenes content on TikTok. Use a dynamic QR code to rotate between seasonal lookbooks — update the destination when your new collection drops without reprinting tags.
Gyms & Fitness
Print QR codes on class schedules, water bottles, and wall displays linking to workout tutorials, trainer profiles, or your gym’s TikTok page. Run a fitness challenge hashtag campaign and print the QR on gym signage so members can scan, post their workout, and tag your brand.
Tourism & Travel
Place QR codes on travel brochures, hotel room cards, and attraction signage linking to destination highlight videos on TikTok. Swap the linked video seasonally — summer beach content in July, ski resort tours in December — without reprinting a single brochure.
Event Organizers
Print QR codes on tickets, wristbands, and stage signage linking to your event hashtag challenge page or official TikTok. Use a pre-event QR to build hype, switch to a live stream QR during the event, then redirect to the highlights reel afterward. Perfect for event marketing.
Restaurants & Cafés
Add QR codes to menus, table tents, and packaging linking to recipe videos, chef profiles, or food prep content on TikTok. Rotate the linked content with seasonal specials — pumpkin spice tutorials in fall, summer cocktail recipes in June — keeping your QR code fresh year-round.
Content Creators
Print QR codes on business cards, media kits, and merch linking to your TikTok profile or viral video for brand deal pitches. Include your TikTok QR on press kits and portfolio pages so brands can instantly see your content and engagement metrics. Scanning
How to Scan a TikTok QR Code
Wondering how to scan a TikTok QR code? The method depends on whether you're scanning a standard QR code, a TikCode, or a login QR. Here's a breakdown for every scenario, including device-specific tips for iPhone and Android.
Standard QR codes (custom): Point your phone camera at the QR code. A notification or link preview appears — tap it to open the TikTok content. If TikTok is installed, it opens in the app. If not, it opens in the browser at tiktok.com.
iPhone camera: Open the Camera app and point it at the TikTok QR code. iOS auto-detects QR codes — a yellow banner appears at the top of the screen. Tap it to open the link. You can also swipe down to open Control Center and long-press the QR code scanner shortcut for faster access.
Android camera: Open your default Camera app and point it at the QR code. Most Android phones (Samsung, Pixel, OnePlus) detect QR codes automatically. On Samsung devices, you can also use the Quick Settings tile “Scan QR code” for one-tap access. If your camera doesn't detect it, open Google Lens from the Google app or Assistant.
TikCodes: Open the TikTok app, tap Discover or Search, then tap the QR scanner icon (camera icon). Point your phone at the TikCode. Note: TikCodes can only be scanned within the TikTok app — your regular phone camera cannot read them.
Built-in profile QR: This is a standard square QR code, so any phone camera works — same as scanning a custom QR code.
Google Lens: Open Google Lens on Android or through the Google app on iPhone. Point at any standard QR code to scan and open the link. Does not work with TikCodes.
TikTok login QR (PC/Desktop): If you're searching for “TikTok QR code on PC” or “TikTok QR code login,” you likely want to log into TikTok on your computer. Visit tiktok.com, select “Log in with QR code,” then open the TikTok app on your phone → Discover → QR scanner icon → point at the code on your screen → confirm login. This is TikTok's passwordless desktop login feature — it's separate from creating QR codes for sharing TikTok content.
TikTok QR code not scanning?
Check that the image is clear, well-lit, and at least 2 × 2 cm. Ensure the code isn't cropped, damaged, or printed too small. For TikCodes, make sure you're using TikTok's built-in scanner (Discover → QR icon) — regular phone cameras can't read TikCodes. For standard QR codes, any phone camera will work. If your camera still won't detect the code, try Google Lens or a dedicated QR scanner app.

TikTok QR Code Design Tips
01
Use TikTok Brand Colors
TikTok’s signature palette: black (#000000) as primary, teal (#69C9D0) and pink (#EE1D52) as accents. The teal-pink combo is instantly recognizable as TikTok. Reference TikTok’s official brand guidelines at tiktok.com/brand for approved logo usage and color codes.
02
Add the TikTok Logo
Place the TikTok music note logo in the QR code’s center or quiet zone for instant brand recognition. QRKIT’s logo feature handles this automatically.
03
Go Bold & Vibrant
TikTok’s audience skews young — bold, vibrant designs perform best. Consider teal-to-pink gradients, rounded corners on frames, and playful CTA text.
04
Print at the Right Size
Minimum 2 × 2 cm for reliable scanning. For posters and signage, scale up to 4 × 4 cm or larger. Always maintain the quiet zone (white border) around the code.
05
Use Dynamic QR Codes
Dynamic QR codes let you redirect to your latest viral video without changing the physical code. Static for permanent links, dynamic for content that changes.
06
Add a Call-to-Action
Text around the QR code drives scans: “Scan to Follow,” “Watch on TikTok,” “Join the Challenge.” Gen Z responds to action-oriented, informal CTAs.
07
Download High-Resolution
SVG and PDF for lossless print quality at any size. PNG for digital and social media. Always test the final file with multiple phones before distributing.
