Will a custom QR code still scan properly?

Yes, as long as you follow basic design guidelines. QR codes have built-in error correction at four levels: L (7%), M (15%), Q (25%), and H (30%). Can a QR code be transparent?

Yes. In the design step, open Background and switch it from Solid Color to Transparent. The background fill goes, including the fill behind the quiet zone — the quiet-zone margin itself stays, because the code needs it to scan — and the preview switches to a checkerboard so you can see it. With no frame applied, the SVG then has no background at all and the PNG carries a real alpha channel, so the code drops onto artwork with no white rectangle behind it. Three limits worth knowing: the PDF offered on this page is a 1,024 px image on a white A4 sheet, so it prints on white regardless; the four campaign frames paint their own solid panel behind the code, so a framed export is not transparent (the circle frame is a ring, so it is the exception); and transparent is not the same as invisible — the pattern still has to contrast with whatever it sits on, because it borrows the brightness of the surface underneath.
